Crowns & Bridges

Crowns

A crown, or a cap, is a restoration used to completely cover a tooth to return it to its original size and shape.  It is usually used to repair a fractured tooth, a broken filling, a decayed tooth, or a tooth that has had a root canal.  The process of fabricating a crown will involve two appointments spaced 2-3 weeks apart.  A mold of the tooth will be used by a laboratory to produce a custom fit crown that will be permanently cemented into place to provide proper support and strength to last many years.  Crowns can be fabriacted using various metal and porcelain materials with a shade to match existing teeth.

Bridge

A bridge is a fixed, or permanent, prosthesis made to replace a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth.  Suitable abutment teeth adjacent to the space are selected for crowns to which a replacement tooth can be connected.  The process is similar to fabriacting a multiple crowns, only that the bridge will consist of a one piece prothesis that spans the space of the missing tooth.
