Myobrace

Myobrace is a preventive, non-invasive pre-orthodontic treatment that uses a series of removable oral appliances and daily exercises to address the underlying causes of crooked teeth and jaw development problems, such as mouth breathing and incorrect tongue positioning. It is primarily used in children aged 3 to 15 to guide natural growth and potentially minimize or eliminate the need for traditional braces later on.

Myobrace Considerations

Target Age

While suitable for a range of ages, it is most effective when started early (typically between ages 5 and 10), during a child's key facial and jaw development phase.

Braces Not Always Avoided

By addressing the root causes early, Myobrace can reduce or avoid the need for traditional braces, but in some cases, braces may still be required for a shorter period to achieve final alignment.

Compliance is Crucial

The success of Myobrace treatment is highly dependent on the patient's consistent daily use of the appliance and adherence to the prescribed exercises.

Professional Supervision

Treatment requires ongoing monitoring and guidance from a trained Myobrace practitioner.

Benefits of Myobrace

The Myobrace system works by retraining the muscles of the mouth and face (myofunctional therapy) to function properly. This is achieved through a multi-stage approach using specific intra-oral appliances for about one to two hours each day plus overnight while sleeping, combined with daily exercises. The key goals are to:

Correct poor oral habits, such as thumb sucking and tongue thrusting.

1

Encourage proper nasal breathing and a correct resting position for the tongue.

2

Develop and align the jaws, allowing sufficient space for adult teeth to come in naturally straight.

3

Optimize facial development and improve overall health, potentially addressing sleep-disordered breathing issues like snoring and sleep apnea.
